iPads, and the printers you already own.

There is no proprietary hardware and no server rack. Kessl runs on iPads, prints straight to standard thermal printers over your own network, and records card payments taken on the terminal you have today.

The on-site server: the whole property keeps running as one.

Standard Kessl keeps each iPad working on its own when the internet drops. With the on-site server, every iPad, printer and kitchen screen keeps working together over your own network, and one sync brings the cloud up to date afterwards. We install it and manage it; there is nothing for you to run.

What you need

Four things, and you may have three of them.

iPads

One per till or server.

Landscape only. Any current iPad works, and iPad mini from the 6th generation up. A mini suits a busy bar; a bigger screen suits the pass. Auto-lock off, rotation lock on, and it’s ready.

Printers

Any ESC/POS thermal printer.

Ethernet or Wi-Fi, 80 mm: Epson TM series, Star, and most generic models. The iPad prints to them directly, no server in between.

Cash drawer

Plugs into the receipt printer.

A standard drawer on the printer’s DK port pops on cash sales, and on a no-sale open with a manager PIN and a reason.

Card payments

The terminal you already have.

Take the card on the terminal your bank or processor provides and record the payment on the check with its auth code. Integrated readers are an optional add-on, depending on your country and your current apps.

Network

One network, fixed printer addresses, and the internet is optional.

The iPads and printers share the venue network, Wi-Fi or wired. That is the only requirement, and it is why service continues when the internet does not.

Required

Wi-Fi for the iPads, wired or Wi-Fi for the printers, all on one venue network. Guest Wi-Fi with client isolation blocks printing, so give staff devices their own network or the main one.

Fixed IP for each printer

Required

A DHCP reservation on the router by the printer’s MAC address. If a printer’s address changes, tickets stop.

Port 9100, raw

Default

The standard raw printing port. Add the printer in Admin with its name, address and roles, then ping it from the iPad.

Local Network permission on iOS

Once per iPad

iOS asks the first time the app talks to a printer. Allow it. A reinstall resets it, which is the first thing to check if tickets stop.

Kitchen display

Any iPad

An iPad signed in with a kitchen PIN is the pass screen. No separate KDS hardware. It takes its tickets from the cloud; printed tickets are what carry the kitchen through an outage.

TV display

Any browser

A screen for the floor or the kitchen, driven from the web admin.

What’s in the box · early access

A small server, a battery, and a wire.

The on-site server is a fanless mini PC on your own network, wired to the router and protected by a small battery backup. While the internet is down it keeps every iPad, printer and kitchen screen working together as one system; when the connection returns it syncs everything to the cloud. Early access: we are lining up the first installs. Register interest and we’ll tell you when your venue can have it.
